The Compozitor Publishing House • Saint-Petersburg starts issuing the first edition of collected works by Alfred Schnittke.

The Compozitor Publishing House Saint-Petersburg starts issuing the first edition of collected works by Alfred Schnittke — the distinguished Russian composer of the 20th century. His piano sonatas № 1, 2 and 3 have become the ones to begin with.

This collection is the mutual project of theCompozitor Publishing House • Saint-Petersburg and Alfred Schnittke’s archive in the London University, while is general edition belongs to Alexander Ivashkin, the composer’s trusty friend, now the director of the Russian music centre in London and Alfred Schnittke’s archive.

The publication is prepared on the base of the author’s manuscripts by skilled textual critics and prominent musicians, having worked with Scnittke. Both Russia and the whole world are given the chance to study authentic Schnittke’s works, the majority of which were never published in Russia, or having become bibliographic rarities.

The collection is scientific and efficient at once: its volumes are divided into parts that may be separately bought. The same with piano sonatas, every one of which is the part of Volume 1 entering the Series VII of Works for Keyboard Instruments.

During 2009 the Compozitor Publishing House • Saint-Petersburg is going to issue other parts of Alfred Scnittke’s collected works, including his violin compositions (Suite in Classical Style, Sonatas, Pieces for violin and piano).
