ALEXANDER ASLAMAZOV

Three sonatas for clarinet solo,
Lamentation — meditation for clarinet solo,
Voice — composition for clarinet (oboe, English horn),
small bell, voice and two tape-recorders

Alexander Aslamazov (*1945) is the famous Russian composer. The cultures of the West, East and bordering Russia are mingled naturally in his creation, distinct for exceptional uniqueness. The colourful world of sounds evokes the composer to persistent searching for non-standard phonations, combining habitual timbres with exotic ones, live performing with recorded music.
Aslamazov is the author of almost 50 compositions (nearly all of them are published in Russia, USA and Germany): these are symphonies and pieces for children, instrumental sonatas and vocal cycles, opera, oratorio and concert pieces for both solo instruments and ensembles. His music is on roll at international festivals, concerts and radio programs in Russia, USA, Sweden, Poland, Yugoslavia and other countries.
The composer tells about the present collection:
“The compositions included constitute a peculiar cycle meant to be an attempt to present non-traditional timbre and technique recourses of clarinet. Abundance of non-ordinary ways of clarinet performance is generally known, although there are not so many performers and composers to know and widely implement those methods. This collection may serve for a manual on new methods of sound-production for the notes to certain technique to get naturally mingled with the living musical material”.
“All the works are meant for a rather experienced clarinet-player. All parts of the sonatas can be also performed as independent works, some of them are applicable to teaching practice. Some parts can be also used for two-clarinet ensemble performance.”
The music collection is supplemented with a CD presenting Alexander Aslamazov’s compositions performed by Grigory Volobuev (* 1952), one of the leading Russian clarinetists, the soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. The record includes all the works of the collection except the composition Voice, for each performance of it creates an unique result.
