The Compozitor • Saint Petersburg Publishing House aND the “Muzikalnoe Obozrenie” (Music Review) national newspaper present the SELECTED Works by Miecizław Wajnberg (1919–1996), the outstanding soviet and russian composer of the 20th century, on the centenary of his birth

Miecizław Weinberg Complete Works is a joint project of Compozitor Sankt- Petersburg Publishing house and “Muzikalnoe Obozrenie” (Music Review) music newspaper. This common initiative is dedicated to the centenary of the composer, which is widely celebrated in December, 2019.

The project is supervised by the “Muzikalnoe Obozrenie” editor-in-chief Andrey Ustinov.

The Complete Works edition consists of 13 volumes containing all genres: works for orchestra, for solo instruments with orchestra, chamber ensembles (string and piano quartets and other chamber works), movie and cartoon soundtrack scores.
Every volume contains musicological preface, all sheet music is meticulously checked against the first editions or Weinberg’s own manuscripts that are being stored and preserved by his heirs.
Some works come out for the first time ever.
Visual design of the edition is created by “Muzikalnoe Obozrenie” in-house design bureau Rare photos of the composer form the family archive are included into cover design. Some of the also are published for the first time.
The first volume of the Complete Works reanimates one of the early works written by the composer in 1948 and never performed ever since till 2017. Its world premiere took place at the concert within limits of the International Forum ‘Miecizław Weinberg. Comeback 1919-1996’ in Bolshoi in February 2017. Pyotr Kondrashin, the Bolshoi orchestra concertmaster and Bolshoi chamber orchestra led by Mikhail Tsinman performed the work.
The first 5 volumes of the Complete Works were presented in December 2018, more came in 2019. One of the volumes, vocal cycle «The Gypsy Bible. Songs to Julian Tuwim verses» (in Polish) — was published with the support of the Polish Embassy with special greetings from Polish Ambassador Plenipotentiary in Russian Federation, Włodzimierz Aleksander Marciniak. The volume as well as the whole Compete works project were presented in December, 2018 in Polish Embassy in Moscow.
The creative team currently working on the Complete Works by M. Weinberg comprises “Muzikalnoe Obozrenie” personnel (Andrey Ustinov, Pavel Raigorodsky, Ekaterina Lobankova, Dmitry Lileyev) and Compozitor Publishing house personnel (Svetlana Tairova, Elena Isayenko, Arina Smirnova, Yana Gorbatovskaya, Olga Serova, Alexander Monosov).
Essays, comments and forewords in this project were written by Andrey Ustinov, Pavel Raigorodsky, Ekaterina Lobankova, Anna Voskoboynikova and Zhanna Menhel.
